Who I Am
I first sat behind the kit at the age of eight, after my father, an enthusiastic hobby drummer, brought home a mongrel kit from a band rehearsal. For me, it was an epiphany. I began studying with the revered Hampshire drum tutor, Albert Cooper, cutting my teeth on my first band at the age of fourteen, playing with musicians ten years my senior. Inspired greatly by the incredible RAOC drummer, Ray Smith, by eighteen, I was earning my living on the cruise-ship scene, moving into studio sessions, theatre, radio, television and depping work over the next four years. Studying for a time with the UK's leading tutor, and Mapex artist, the late famous Bob Armstrong, by my mid- twenties, I was in demand by studios and live bands alike for my musical approach to the kit, and natural, technical control. In 2009, I was invited by Vic Firth to join their international education team, and the Hudson Publishing Education Team. In 2014, I was invited to join the renowned Echo Factory Music Academy as a visiting faculty tutor / clinician. I was very proud to be officially endorsed by Evans Heads, Promark Sticks, Cymbomute and Tunerfish. I holds clinics across the UK for music schools, drum retailers, and youth organisations. Much of my work is short notice depping for bands across the UK, and my private teaching business in Woburn Sands – I'm personally recommended by Paul Weller’s ex-drummer, Steve White (now with the Family Silver). Recent work include Jesus Christ Superstar, CD Unplugged, Cinderella, Thirteen, Spamalot, Beauty & The Beast and shared the bill at The Best Of British drum event in London, alongside such luminaries as Ralph Salmins, Ash Soan and Nick Mason!

My Approach
To Playing
For me, drumming is all about intention: understanding why a part works, not just how to play it. Whether I’m crafting a groove for a track, breaking down a student’s technique, or exploring new ideas in my own practice, I focus on musical purpose, feel, and clarity. I approach every song as a conversation—listening deeply, shaping dynamics, and choosing parts that elevate the music rather than crowd it. With over 36 years of experience, I blend precision with creativity, helping players unlock the mechanics behind great drumming while always staying connected to the emotion of the performance. My goal is simple: to make every note mean something.
